Honeydew is the sneaky one. It coats the whole upper surface in a sticky film that holds dust and refuses to wash off cleanly, and in summer heat it bakes on. Bird lime is more aggressive still, etching into the clear coat within hours on a hot day.
Removing etching without marring the finish
A true etch is a physical depression in the clear coat, so removing it means machine correction to level the surrounding paint down to the base of the mark. That is a paint-removing process, which is why we measure depth first and take the least aggressive route that works.
Sticky honeydew film needs the right chemical approach and patience rather than scrubbing, because scrubbing a bonded film is how swirls get added. Done properly, the film comes off and the paint underneath is untouched.
Stopping it bonding again
A ceramic coating does not stop trees dropping honeydew or birds doing what birds do. What it does is give those deposits a slick surface they cannot bond to, so they rinse off in a wash instead of etching in and needing correction.
